STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
I would like to introduce myself as JOHN. I have completed my bachelor of Engineering in Electronics & Communication from SIR M.VISVESVARAYA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY an esteemed institution under BANGALORE UNIVERSITY.I always had the ambition of pursuing the MS program right from my childhood days.
I firmly believe that inquisitive and explorative attitude leads to constant learning process. As an Electronics Engineer, I look for graduate study to refine my knowledge and skills in my areas of interest. I believe it will also serve to give direction to my goal of a career as research oriented organization.
During my undergraduate study subjects like Communication systems, Signal processing, VLSI, Control systems, Microprocessors have been my favorite subjects. In particular I like Signal processing & VLSI, and would like to specialize in that. The electronic chip has always fascinated me. As years roll by the size of the chip is decreasing and the cost is decreasing effectively. Though the size is decreasing, the sophistication of the function performed by the chip is increasing all the time. This advancement in the technology of the chip industry has inspired me to work in that industry, but as for my MS degree, I would remain open to other topics as well.
My project work during my final year of undergraduate course was on Flash Microcontrollers (ATMEL AT89C55).The title of the project was “SERIAL COMMUNICATION BETWEEN CONTROL CARDS IN (10+1) MUX”.10 is the number of Voice/data channels.1 is order wire which is not included in the voice/data channels and must be written separately. This may appear a deviation from the area in which I wish to specialize, I am aware of the role that Microcontroller plays in field of Electronics. Hence, with an aspiration to specialize in area of VLSI or Signal processing, I present my application in front of you hoping for positive consideration.
I am aware universities in USA offer great scope and encouragement for Intellectual & academic development. The process of technical advancement is very fast in USA. Hence, USA has emerged as world leader in Science & Technology. In order to keep myself updated with latest technical advances I am keen to obtain MS degree in USA.
After consulting my Professors, Friends, seniors studying in USA your university has been recommended very highly for its excellent faculty & learning experience. I always believe that essence of university education lies in synergetic relationship between student and his department. I feel that graduate study at your university will be the most logical extensions of my objectives. I am confident that wholesome education that I receive at your university will stand me in good stead through out my career.
I sincerely request you to consider my application for admission into your reputed university. I would be grateful to you if I am accorded the opportunity to pursue my higher studies and given the opportunity, I am sure that I will be able to able to achieve my goals keeping in touch with the expectations of the university.

Statement of Purpose
Academic & Career Objectives
My long term career goals include the pursuit of research in
The field of Theoretical Computer Science and teaching in an academic environment. I have found that a career in research is both intellectually stimulating and satisfying and hence I have decided to take this up as my career objective.
Degree Objectives
I want to work towards a Ph.D. in Computer Science in the field of Theoretical Computer Science. My interests include both the design and analysis of Algorithms as well as Computational Complexity Theory.
Reason for Graduate Work
I have always been fascinated by mathematics. As a part of my undergraduate curriculum, I have been exposed to a range of advanced mathematical techniques and I have been especially drawn towards both the analysis of Algorithms and Complexity Theory. These fields have both a strong mathematical flavor as well as the potential for research which is what attracts me towards them.
The fact that these subjects form a unifying feature of all fields in Computer Science and their quest towards achieving the limits of what can and can't be done, form part of the reasons for my fascination in them.
An undergraduate degree is merely an exposure to the various fields in any branch of higher education. I feel that my undergraduate curriculum has given me a sufficient enough exposure to all the various possibilities for research that are possible and I have chosen the one for which I have both an aptitude as well as a liking.
In order to pursue an active career in research, it is necessary to both study and understand the finer nuances of any subject. I believe that Graduate Studies will not only provide me with advanced knowledge about the field but also prepare me to be a good researcher. It is precisely this reason which prompts me to take up Graduate Studies as the next step towards my career objectives.
As an initial step towards achieving my goal, as part of my undergraduate studies, I have chosen my electives so as to enhance my understanding of these subjects. These include such subjects as Design & Analysis of Algorithms, Combinatorics and Abstract Algebra. I have also audited (taken as non-credit) a Graduate level course Algorithms & Complexity.
I have attended an Advanced Mathematics Training Program in
Summer'93 to enhance my mathematical abilities.
Why have I chosen Stanford?
I have chosen Stanford as the place at which I would like to pursue a doctoral degree because I find that the graduate program is fully suited to my needs and that it possesses a strong faculty in the field of Theoretical Computer Science.
I have also consulted the professors in my university who are working in the field of Algorithms and Complexity Theory and they have strongly recommended the research work in these fields at Stanford.
Hence, I have applied to Stanford so as to fulfill both my academic as well as my career objectives.

Career Goals:
My rationale to seek a graduate degree in U.S. was a result of my search for a broader, interactive and challenging education with flexibility to choose the versatility of your own programme. As I perceive it, U.S. is the confluence of intellectuals from the various parts of the globe. A society of competitive and enterprising individuals with cosmopolitan outlook attracts students from all over the world. You get to study with international students and learn about different cultures and societies.
Why your university?
I am confident that I possess the required preparation, motivation, intellectual ability and commitment to do justice to a graduate program. I am convinced that my study at your esteemed university be a meaningful and rewarding experience. By graduating from an esteemed program like yours, I wish to gain in-depth practical knowledge of the subjects I have long adored, which I believe would help me to contribute to the technological advancements by learning and working alongside with some of the eminent faculty in the area. I believe this experience to be the cornerstone of my technological career ahead of me. But at the same time, with my strong background and ardor in pursuit of knowledge, I am confident I will be able to contribute to research work at your university and live up to the expectations of your academic standards. I earnestly look forward to being a part of your academic community.
Thank you.
